Phintella jumping spider

Phintella is a genus of jumping spiders, that was first described by W.Bosenberg and Embrik Strand in 1906.


Males and females of the species Phintella vittata are able to detect ulraviolet light from the Sunligt and they have specializes surface on thier bodies to reflect it. The male Phintella spiders use the reflection of UVB radiation to enhance thire ability to attract female spiders.

What they eat?

All spiders are predators, feeding almost entirely on othere arthropods, especially small insects. Many Phintella spiders inject venom into their prey to kill quickly, and they also use silk wrappings to immobilize their victims.


Are they harmful to the humans?


Unlike other spiders, there are said to be inquisitive and may even jump on to your hands. If you approach them do not worry , they are too tiny to harm you and they are not venomous to the humans.


Phintella spiders are mostly distribution in India, Nepal, China, Malaysia and Sri Lanka. They can find others countries as well.
